Gaussian Blur for Unity URP - Blurring made easy
Overview
Blur is a vital aspect of designing that can add movement and depth to your scenes. It's often used to shift focus from the background, generate abstract backgrounds, and replicate photographic effects such as camera depth or bokeh. And that's where Gaussian Blur for Unity URP comes in.
This asset offers two types of blurs - layer and canvas blur. Layer blur applies a full-screen layer blur to the camera view, while canvas blur blurs any layers behind a selection on the canvas. With this asset, you can add blur effects by applying the material to Raw Image, Image, or Panel components. Or, you can blur the entire screen using the volume component override.
Setting up the Gaussian Blur shader is simple. Add the Blur Render Feature to your Universal Renderer Data asset, then add a Global or Local Volume in your scene and enable the Gaussian Blur override. To blur the screen, increase the radius of the Gaussian Blur override. And to set up the blur canvas, create a new canvas, call it "Blur Canvas," and set the Canvas render mode to "Screen Space - Camera."
With this asset, you can easily control the tint and blur radius of your blur canvas items. Adjust the tint and blur radius (px) in the GaussianBlurShader material.
Any objects rendered on a Screen Space - Camera canvas will be affected by the blur, including those in your scene. However, objects rendered on a Screen Space - Overlay canvas will not be affected.

Compatibility
- This asset requires Compute Shader support.
- This asset does not work with VR.
- This asset conducts straight Gaussian Blur blending without any up- or down-scaling. So, you have the finest control over progressive blur levels, blur pixel radius, and more. This approach requires more GPU resources. Try to avoid very high blur radius values to limit the performance impact.
