Who wouldn't want to be able to play or create more hardcore mobile games? But the reality is that traditional virtual controls don't work well for this:
1) With the full-sized cross dpad, the user's finger often presses more than one button at the same time
2) With a large cross dpad, the user presses the wrong button frequently,
3) With the joystick, the user has to drag a ball, which is clumsy, imprecise and takes a relatively long time for quick reflex games.
4) Different inputs, such as point and click and on-screen drag, are also slow and awkward for an action game.
I am a veteran of the gaming industry and have been researching this issue for years. Until I found a touch screen algorithm where my casual users were able to play action and fps games very comfortably, naturally and accurately, as if it were a real / physical gamepad.
You don't have to believe me, you can test a 3rd person demo (Zelda-like) and a 1st person demo (inspired by The Last of Us) yourself. Your risk is zero.
Compare how clumsy the controls are for the more hardcore games on Google Play and App Store like Oceanhorn and Call of Duty Mobile. If you're looking for a less crowded blue ocean for action games that work really well, or just port your Steam game well to mobile, or just create something different for mobile, this asset might be what you need. I just don't recommend it if you just want to create a hyper-casual game of one or two touches, or another slow game, like so many others that exist in the mobile market. Although this type of niche is very overloaded, it is also a possible path, nothing against it.
The Ultra Precise Dpad Joystick supports:
- As many dpads you want
- As many buttons as you want
- Optionally, an intelligent on-screen finger drag detection, to be used to control the camera from an FPS, for example, or any another situation where an analogue lever would be used, that is, to obtain not only the direction of movement, but also its intensity.
- Use the UI you want and customize it the way you want
- Fast, accurate, intuitive and natural answers!
- IOS and Android
>> Super easy integration in less than 1 minute: Drag 1 prefab across the screen, and change a single line of code in the script that controls your player, and the Input class will respond to the virtual gamepad!
I decided to publish this library as an Asset to help other devs complete their great games, while buying them also helps me complete mine.
You could spend multiple digits of dollars on a large team of research and development experts studying mobile inputs for months to try to come up with a similar solution. Compared to that huge expense, and considering to how much a smart dev can do with action-adventure games so accurate, the current price of this asset is downright negligible.
In any case, I'm putting a super discount 50% off on the launch for the first customers, so enjoy it while it lasts because it really gave me a lot of work, but I look forward to seeing good games using this technology.
