Unhyeon Palace is the house where Heungseon Daewongun lived, and it was also the place where King Gojong grew up until he was born and ascended the throne. It was designated as a private site by combining the house of Heungseon Daewongun and the new Western-style building that was used as the main building of Deokseong Women's University in the 1910s.

In the hanok, Noandang, the detached house of Daewon-gun, is located in the front south, and Nolakdang, the main house, is located in the north, the rear, extending from east to west.
