The Genvid MILE SDK lets you create Massively Interactive Live Events (MILEs).
MILEs are highly interactive and engaging livestreams which combine the storytelling of traditional media with gaming’s sense of agency and the community of shared experiences. They allow participants the choice to lean-in to the experience and influence narrative outcomes or play mini-games, or to relax and just enjoy the story, bringing diverse audiences together.
The Genvid MILE SDK plugin for Unity developers enables this rich layer of interactivity to be added to any Unity stream. The Genvid MILE SDK allows participants to interact with that stream content in any number of ways. The resulting streams are platform and device agnostic, allowing you to stream to almost any connected device without any installations - giving you access to huge audiences all over the world.
What you produce with the Genvid MILE SDK is up to you. For example, the Genvid MILE SDK can enable an informational overlay to bring up data and statistics from the stream, synchronized to what the participants are seeing. You can also enable viewer-to-viewer communications through the overlay such as cheering, and viewer-to-game communications. But the core functionality of MILEs is intended to be large-scale interactive experiences where your participants are able to directly influence the outcome of the narrative being broadcast. True, community-based narrative choices at a massive scale.
How does it work?
To enable your viewers to become participants, you’ll use bidirectional data communication in addition to your standard broadcast.
Specifically:
- First, use the Genvid Native SDK to capture the audio and video feed as well as the complementary data you programmed with your preferred Rendering Engine. We support Unity, Unreal and any DirectX capable engine.
- Then, the Genvid SDK services, hosted on your AWS or Azure cloud platform, split the feeds to isolate the broadcast from the data stream.
- The A/V feed goes straight to your favorite Online Video Platform (OVP), while the data is sent to your own web server or a dedicated Twitch extension.
- The Genvid Web SDK gathers back both feeds (A/V and data), synchronizes, and displays them to ensure a seamless experience for your participants.
- Participants access your event through their preferred browser. When they interact, their data is collected and sent back to your creation, where you decide the influence it has on the unfolding story.
- More details are available on the Genvid Technologies website.
