You are no longer restricted to emitting audio evenly outwards using Audio Sources and can now achieve directional emission without the need for third-party software such as Wwise and FMOD. With the introduction of Sound Sources (included), you can easily select the direction that the sound should emit clearly. This is important as it's how sound behaves in the real world (e.g. a person's voice is clear when you're in front of them and dull when you're standing behind them).
Sound Sources do not replace Audio Sources - they enhance their functionality. You can still use Audio Sources throughout your project as usual, and select to use Sound Sources only for specific audio (or vice versa).
You can set the on and off-axis angles (e.g. front and behind the Sound Source), fine-tune the frequency roll-off between the on-Axis to off-Axis angles via curves or use the preset curves provided. Off-axis frequency roll-off is selectable.
Adjustable Gizmos allow for clear visualisation of your Sound Sources, with options for selectable fill colors, clear representation of on/off axis areas, line thickness (in Unity 2020.2 and newer - note: line thickness is not a feature in 2020.1 and earlier but asset works as normal otherwise), each Sound Source volume setting is represented by its corresponding Gizmo transparency to help indicate volume settings and more.
Enjoy!
